If you're selling products online, steal this simple two-step process to increase sales from past visitors.

Vessi - The World's First 100% Waterproof Knit Shoes by Vessi Footwear — Kickstarter

Email geek confession:

I often abandon an order on a website just so I can intentionally see what their email or SMS follow-up is.

This is what I did when Vessi Footwear fed me an Instagram ad for shoes (after I spent some time viewing other footwear-related ads).

10-ish minutes after abandoning my cart, I received the following email.

Subject Line: Come Back, Andrew!

Vessi Footwear abandoned cart email

This is a damn-near-perfect abandoned cart email.

  • A+ subject line

  • Simple CTA

  • Highlights product

  • Branding is on point

It also takes care of any objections around shipping, exchanges, and payment.

The copywriting is *chef’s kiss*.

SMS follow-up

The abandoned cart email by itself would’ve been enough to get me to write a blog review of it.

Then came the SMS follow-up a couple of hours later.

Here it is:

Vessi Footwear SMS follow up after an abandoned cart

You outdid yourself, Sarah.

Here’s why I love this SMS message:

  • It’s timely

  • It’s not sales-y

  • It’s helpful

  • It’s building a relationship

If you’re wondering how to do this for your product or service, I’m going to suggest you check out Klaviyo, which is the automation software Vessi used to send this email (and probably the SMS too).

No matter what service you’re using (Mailchimp, Hubspot, etc.), linking it to your online store and setting up an abandoned cart automation is integral to your marketing success.

Why?

What’s more, these emails WORK.

  • Open rate: 41.18%

  • Click rate: 9.50%

  • Revenue per recipient: $5.81

Again, those stats are from Klaviyo’s Abandoned Cart Benchmark Report.
