Not All Email Lists Are Created Equal

Random email addresses with no context aren't that helpful

Hola amigos,

It’s shocking how many times I ask for an email list and what I am sent over is a literal list of emails with no further context.

No first name, no last name, no geography, no spending history… nothing!

Now, to be fair, the client doesn’t know what the client doesn’t know and what’s obvious to me — a handsome email marketer — isn’t obvious to people who aren’t sending emails for a living.

After receiving a list of 2,400 emails this week with no supplementary information, I decided I needed to make a video addressing the reality that not all email lists are created equal.

You can watch that video on either:

(If you’re not following me on those platforms, it’d be swell if you did.)

Once you’re done watching that video, consider what information about a contact would be most valuable for you, your organisation, or your client’s organisation.

Write it all down.

Then compare it to what information you’re currently collecting and how that plays into your segmentations, merge tags, and dynamic content.

That should keep you busy for the rest of the morning.

Talk to ya next week.

Adios,Andrew
