Please, PLEASE Add Tags To Your Email List
Your email marketing is suffering if you don't do this...
Hola amigos,
Are you using tags for your email lists?
You should be.
Here's why...
You can think of a tag as a badge for each of your contacts in a list.
These badges give you insight into each one of your contacts.
There are generally 2 types of tags:
Status tags — this can look like an "engaged" vs "disengaged" contact.
2. Info tags — this would generally involve tagging a contact with an action (clicked on a link), source (how they entered your list), and interest (why they're on you list).
Tags should be added automatically. It'll save you time and it's just easier to outsource this type of management to your marketing automation service (i.e. Mailchimp).
For example, if someone enters my list via a webinar, I'd set up the webinar registration form to automatically tag them "July 2020 webinar".
However, if I had a bunch of people write down their email for me at a tradeshow, I'd enter those emails manually and apply tags to them manually as well.
Lastly, tags should be intuitive. Anyone should be able to see them and make sense of them.
What you DON'T want to do with tags is name them something obscure like:
Project_70912_Webinar_Did_Attend_July_2022_Final
(You'd be amazed how many businesses write tags like this).
If you want to add tags to your list, decide what's important for your business to know about each contact:
Purchase history
Source
Events attended
Geography
Sex
Donations
Once that is done, begin creating segments in your list and assigning them their appropriate tag.
This task will take time, but it will pay dividends when creating a marketing automation process that helps grow your business.
Have a great week, friends.
